Why did you start the InterActive Group?

We felt that education was fundamental to the museum experience. And we had an underlying belief that a visitor-driven focus on museum learning could lead to a better approach for creating interactive exhibits. Better than what we saw around us and better than what our clients thought they could expect. We thought that sensory-based learning was for everyone—and set out to find clients who believed the same.

How do you approach your work?
Our work centers on using Active Learning to tap into visitor curiosity. Successful interactive exhibit environments are about opportunities for visitors to learn in informal, friendly, and enjoyable ways. We partner with our clients, drawing together multiple perspectives, current learning theory and creative design to dramatically enhance visitor learning.

What kind of clients do you work with?
Our clients put learning at the top of their priorities. We work with science, zoological and nature centers, art and children’s museums, historical societies and interpretive sites—anywhere where organizational missions intersect visitor learning. We also work with retail clients ranging from museums to automotive using Active Learning to turn visitors into customers.

What are your unique strengths?
We work hard to ask the right questions… and spend a lot of time listening to our clients, their audiences and stakeholders. Our strengths grow from our roots in museum education, architecture and exhibit design and the ability to translate educational goals into dynamic learning environments.

How do you differ from other firms?
Unlike museum consultants we have actual experience in creating hands-on exhibit environments from initial visioning to final commissioning. Unlike design firms we look at the broader educational and institutional goals for serving visitor audiences. And unlike production firms we bring a talented and creative process for innovating in pursuit of the best exhibit experiences.

What kind of project do you do best?
We bring the most value to projects that let us converge our educational strengths, creativity and production capabilities on a complete exhibit setting. We’ve created exhibit settings in as little as a few hundred square feet as well as ones that encompass complete museums. Regardless of size, our best work results from working hand in hand with our clients to arrive together at meaningful exhibit experiences.

How are we involved in the work process?
Our clients see everything. From the first questions, rough sketches and awkward doodles to the half-baked ideas leading finally to finished exhibits. The process is inclusive and that means it sometimes looks messy, and our clients are there with us helping to create it.

How will you manage our project?
Effective management begins on day one. We recognize that early in the process clients have more questions than answers. Our project management grows out of our collaborative approach; we act as your guide through each step of the project, advising you of options, providing team leadership, and balancing your project’s resources to yield a successful outcome.
